A little about me
and how I work
Hi, I’m Kelly.
I’m Kelly Adams, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Council-approved supervisor in Texas. I started Opalite Counseling & Consulting to work with teens, young adults, women, and children in Richmond.
I especially enjoy helping people with self-esteem. I care about how you talk to yourself, what makes you doubt yourself, and what helps you feel proud of who you are. That might mean trying again after a mistake, trusting your own decisions, or saying what you need without apologizing for it.
I’m warm and direct, and I bring my personality into my work. Outside the therapy room, I have two dogs and two cats, and a few of my favorite things are coffee, Taylor Swift, and Gilmore Girls. I also love having something creative to work on.
How I work
I’m trained in EMDR and use sand tray, art, and play when they fit the person I’m working with.
Neuroscience and the connection between the brain and body are central to how I work. In our work, we may pay attention to what you notice physically when feelings come up and explore what helps you feel more settled. I like making the neuroscience behind these experiences understandable and useful in everyday life.
We’ll talk about what’s been going on and what you’d like help with. I’ll explain the approaches we might use, answer your questions, and check in with you along the way. You can tell me when something doesn’t feel right.
What you can expect
Getting to know you
I want to get to know you beyond the reason you made an appointment. We’ll talk about what’s hard, what you enjoy, and what you want for yourself.
Talking openly
You can disagree with me, ask questions, or tell me you’re not ready to talk about something. I want us to be able to have those conversations.
Creativity and play
With children, I often use toys, art, and sand tray. Play gives us another way to understand and work through feelings.
Practical support
We’ll discuss things you can try between appointments. For parents, that may mean working through a specific situation at home.
Getting started
I see clients in Richmond. If you’re considering therapy for yourself or your child, we can start with a consultation call to talk about what you’re looking for, availability, and fees.
